All, apreciate the advice! Panda, I'm relatively familiar with the area, backpacked and snowshoed last year a few times. I think I read someones trip report from December, that's what got me thinking about the area. That being said, after watching the weather, bulletin for Kootenay, and overall comfort level, I ended up doing some laps at Mt Spokane.
Noticed a few sluffs on the way up, 36* at the base 30* at the summit road parking lot. There was a pretty solid rain crust which i'm sure doest surprise anyone. Dug a small pit about halfway up, had about 3/4" rain crust, followed by 3" of 1 finger snow, then what looked to me (not a professional) like a hoar layer. It was snowing at the campground, a mix of graupple and small light flakes. Anyways, toured up to the camp ground parking lot, back down, and another lap. Overall a great day!
Anyways, I'm free next week and would love to tag along and learn with anyone going. Joined this forum after seeing how knowledgeable everyone is and would really like to learn.
