Please be patient. Mike and I are starting slow and this forum will just get better as we grow.

We created this forum site because there are forums for Western Wa, BC, Sierra's, Wyoming, etc.. But nothing based on just this area. As many of you know, we have some of the best snow and greatest backcountry riding but it is hidden and it takes a little work.. With Great reward when you get the goods!

We hope to organize tours and small group outings along with sharing tours, snowpack observations, gear info and anything else that comes to mind.

Please be sure to fill out your profile, especially the "Training and Experience" section. This gives others an understanding of what level of backcountry experience you have. This way one can properly route find for each individual that may be in a group.

Don't forget what gear you're a rockin'! Many people have questions about gear. And if they see what you use, they may have questions as to what your thoughts on the gear is.

To Ski Shop employees and industry peeps… Please include information as to where you work or industry. We all have questions that you specifically may have the answer to!!!

Thank you for coming on board,
Admin

Just joined. Know and ocassionally ski with (behind) Mike. Looks like a great site with a lot of possibilities. Did you read Harris in Mon. weather article CDA Press today. He says LaNina is forming again and may be a good snow year. Look forward to skiing with people here. For Info., I am a long time skier but really new to BC. Just purchased new Atomic Tracker bindings and Rossi S7 178 skis. Could not pass up at the price I got them for. Will we have a newbie trips/s. Working on getting into shape. So far have just skied off side/backsides of Silver and Lookout and skinned out so am a real rookie but looking forward to upcoming season. Probably shouldn't admit this but last year skied way by the traverse out at South of Border/Silver and it took me 1 hr and 55 min to hike/side step out, if I would have had skins etc. if would have been maybe 30 min out. So am in the learning phase but the powder was great. Hello Everyone

Welcome Pete!

Stoked to have you here, as a part of the Panhandle Backcountry community! Pete is a fantastic skier who's just getting into backcountry the past few seasons.

I sure hope the predictions are right and it's another La Nina winter! I think Silver was well over 200" at the summit the 98/99 season. Mt Baker also set it's snowfall record that year.

Either way, looking forward to making some turns with you this winter, hopefully some skinning too!

I wouldn't worry too much about your SOB misadventure anymore.. We've all been there, and it's the desire for fresh turns and getting away from the resort that got a lot of us into backcountry skiing in the first place. I once overshot Chair 4 bigtime and spent about an hour on a 24" powder day wallowing my way back to the terminal from below, in plain view of a forming crowd.

By the way Pete, we still need to hit the powerlines sometime when it's deep in town!

thanks for the welcome. Mike yes on the powerline. Would prefer on a powder day to hit early, leave a car in Eliz Park and get one really good fresh tracks shot.

Panda, thanks looking forward to skiing with you. I will need shovel and beacon. Can you keep us informed if you see any good deals on beacons ? Also avalanche classes.

Yes, hope Harris is right. For most the season is right after Fall sometime in October when the leaves start to fall. For me it is June 22 - well the days are getting shorter - right.

Cheap shovels, avoid plastic: http://www.geartrade.com/browse/shovels

Deal on a transceiver with great range and features: (comes out to a little over $200 with 40% off coupon: http://stp.me/July40 ): http://www.sierratradingpost.com/pieps-dsp-avalanche-transceiver~p~5897x/

Used Tracker DTS on Ebay (very easy to use, but only 2 antenna vs 4 in the Pieps): http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tracker-DTS-Avalanche-Beacon-Transceiver-/300939846988

TGR's Gear Swap (and hopefully, eventually ours here) is also another good place to find deals on used avy equipment.

Hey guys, thanks for doing this. We were looking to set up a B/C forum on our website but it just kept falling too far down the needs done list. Great to have you get this very valuable resource up and running.

Welcome to the community David! Things should start ramping up when we get closer to next season. The local bc community is pretty fragmented as it stands snow and relevant information hard to come by; the goal of this site is to change that.

I still have to get on a pair of 7B Ski's GOAT BC sometime. I've heard great things about your skis and work. The fishscales sound especially useful for some terrain around here we hit pretty often.

Sweet skis:

Let us know if we can get you some stickers or anything.. Welcome again and thanks for the support!

David.. Indeed Welcome.. Let me know how I can get you stickers! As for Skis.. maybe you should also make Splitboards!! LOL

This is a great! I'm an east coaster that has a strong desire to hit the BC out west and have been told by friends of mine to get educated and geared up before they will even think about taking me out. I have gained a strong respect for the mountains thus far and how fragile life can be and wish to absorb all I can from your forum even though I realize I may not be able to contribute as much as I like to. Maybe even set up a BC trip to the panhandle in the near future. Found this through powder panda on IG btw. Mad respect and one love. Keep up the great work guys!

DJ... This site if for experienced AND inexperienced alike!! We all started somewhere.. I've been fortunate enough to find ways to live well and ride. That's the name of the game...
Make sure ya let us know if you do... Another reason we started this site was for people coming from afar can find people and places to go. We are big on getting the knowledge.. and you are taking the right path. Check with local shops or AIARE website for local classes. Just remember, Huge difference in snow conditions. We have a Intercontinental snowpack for the most part which is different than the Coast Mtn's and Rockies (Colorado).
Look forward to you being around.. Oh, stickers are in the mail!! ;-)

DJ Paul, long way from NY am sure you will like our snow. Welcome to PanhandleBackcountry! I am a Sierra transplant and love it here. Also am a rookie to BC so looking forward to this season.

Woo-hoo! A way to find people to ride backcountry with!
I'm up in the Sandpoint area and am just working part time this winter at Schweitzer's rental dept. So if anyone wants to ski, let me know.

Just moved up to CDA from northern california. Stumbled across the site -- looks like a great resource. I'm looking forward to exploring the BC this winter, although I will probably be mostly in the Schweitzer sidecountry this year (young daughter doesn't leave much time for all day epics!)

Mike T.. Welcome. Keep in touch and post when you want to go places.. Schweitzer has some epic side-country (I don't like using that term much…) There's a pretty good size group that hit it there… If I get up there and meet ya, we can introduce you to some! Good peeps there with lots of knowledge!

Hey guys, new to the site but not the area. Lookin forward to meeting some of you guys and gettin out a bit more. Actually probably have met a few of ya before, I work at the Alpine Haus so if you have any gear questions I'd be happy to help.
