UPDATE:
05/27/15
We've made a date…. 06/12-14 Will be the date for the Annual Glacier Trip!!!

Road MAY open next weekend, but not 100% as they are cleaning up the visitor center and getting the road ready for 2 lane traffic.

So, get your stuff together… This is always a freakin' blast of a trip with incredible views, terrain for everyone, wildlife and of cords.. Awesome People!!! Oh, let's not forget all the Japanese tourist wanting to take your picture!!!

There is camping at the park, hotel in Hungry Horse (Basic but clean), Nice hotel just inside and at park entrance as well as inn Kalispell (Just further away).
I will post hotel info thru the next few days.

Let's do this!!!!!

Hey gang, time to start thinking about the annual trip to Logan pass. This is a Must Do for anyone, whether new to the sport, or seasoned big mtn rider! The terrain there accommodates Everyone!!

The road is well on the way to being plowed. Much further advanced than last year… That said, we have found that trying to "time' an opening does not work as the weather is too unpredictable up there and latte season snow storms shut down the road and plowing.

So, we want to come up with a date, or a few dates that would be a given the road is open, which is typically by 4th of July weekend.

The thought here is we could set a date for June 27th & 28th and July 11th & 12th for instance.
This can be updated as we watch the road.. at the point they are now, without many issues, we could see first to middle of June..

Looks dope! I'm probably moving to Montana this summer so I'm down for any shenanigans, especially if they involve suffering and a little skiing.

This sounds like a cool first backcountry trip for me if I have gear by the time the trip occurs. I could easily purchase a crap ton of gear right away so I will start working on convincing my wife of my needs. ;)

Raynord.. This is a great trip to take as there are Many different lines from easy, moderate to more extreme.
Also, the wife could go as well.. either stay down and enjoy the sites at the pass, drive into Whitefish or relax at the many different places around the area…

You may check with NIC Outdoor Pursuits to see if they will rent anything. They may not due to the time of year, but doesn't hurt to try.

Cheers

Ohhh, she could that is a great idea as she has brought up going to Glacier this summer as we didn't get to see much when we went snow shoeing there in January. It will all depend on how busy her first month is as she is starting residency right at the end of June.

Maybe she'll get lucky and be off rotation on the dates we get. Yeah, snowshoeing ya don't see much there.. Like the tip of a pin!

A smidgen of the area at the pass… We always hit that headwall.. Super fun chutes.

Crampons and ice axes are helpful

Crampons are on sale if you don't have them and want to ascend anything steep at Glacier:

Ice axe or ski whippet is also a good idea for self arresting on steeps. Ski crampons can come in handy also, but less so than boot.

Corsa weighs nothing and your ski pack probably already has an attachment for it:

BD 60cm Axe: http://www.mountaingear.com/webstore/Gear/Climbing/Ice-axes/Black-Diamond/Raven/_/R-210357.htm

None of this stuff is needed if you just plan to skin mostly and stick to the more moderate pitched slopes.

Bump.. so everyone see's this update!

Sarah and I stayed in Columbia Falls last year and liked it. Not too far away, but right next door to Montana Coffee Traders haha Definetely down for some camping if we can figure something out at Avalanche CG (closest to the pass).

Does anyone have a small propane grill they could bring for dinner at the pass on Saturday? (okay'd with the rangers, with a few rules)
