Which skins to buy

Mike and Panda,

I met you guys at Snowlander this year, and you mentioned some good skins to pick up. I memorized the name and it stuck with me for at least, oh I don't know, 30 seconds? If you don't mind repeating yourself, what's a good, inexpensive set-o-skins? I'm a beginner at the backcountry stuff and have a set of Sneva's E5's to put them on, if that make a difference.

Thanks!
Bruce

Hey Bruce, good to see you on here!

We like the G3 Alpinist skins. Good balance between glide and grip, light and easy to cut. Can usually find a 20% off coupon for one of the major internet retailers. Backcountry.com brand skins are the same skin basically but a little less cash if they're still in stock.

What are the dimensions of the E5 model you have? Generally you want to trim to fit to cover most the ski, but the rockered tips and tail don't need full coverage.

The skis are 188's, with a 146,108,127 profile. I assume I should get their longs (180-190 length) in a 130 width? Or do you go shorter length with full width?

Ditto Mike…
I LOVE my G3's.. Have brand new pair sitting in a box as I have not needed to switch out. Still using my 3yr old ones.
Welcome aboard Sewer Rat!!!

The backcountry.com branded g3s are apparently going for under $100 on sale, then take off another $13 for Activejunky discount. That's a smoking deal on skins...
