Im looking at getting a new set of boots for touring. Has anyone riden the Dalbello Sherpa 5/5 I.D. Alpine Touring Boot - Men's? Or does anyone have some recommendations for a good quality boot?BLU.jpg

Mike has good questions you should ask yourself. After you narrow that down, you really need to go in and try on many pairs of diff. boots to see which one fits YOUR foot. All your criteria don't mean jack if the boot doesn't fit. I am going through the same issue with new alpine boots, again, and settled on a boot that fits my foot great, has a burly stiff flex I wanted and was really off my radar as I had tried on that manu. many many years ago and they didn't fit that great. Best fitting boot I tried on the other day and I tried on a bunch.

I went with the Atomic Hawx 2.0 130. I have a narrow heal and a wide fore foot, with a high instep. The boot is going to require just a small punch at the sixth toe and back towards the heal about 2" and that should do it. They fit awesome everywhere else. Great heal hold, once I put in an aftermarket insole. The flex was nice and stiff even in the shop, felt nice and even throughout the flex, stiffening up towards the last 1/3 of the flex. It will be interesting to ski them and see if the sole/forefoot flex claims are true and can be noticed while skiing. Plus there is some red on them, so I know they are gonna be fast!

I own the Sherpa 7/3's and have skied the 5/5. I absolutely love them. Probably has one of the most natural progressive touring strides (IMO) with the release and the bio stride tongue. The dual hinged "dynalink" they use for the instep buckles offers little resistance when fastened down in touring mode. Certainly allows for a very shoe like feel when touring on more uneven terrain. My only complaint is that the sherpa line being developed by Plake and other like minded ski mountaineers, they have definitely focused on weight savings, giving the boot a softer than idea flex in its category as well as a lower than average cuff height.

Honestly, mine were a little soft but fit super comfortable and were some of the only touring boots that fit me (having tried Sportiva, Scarpa, Dynafit, Black Diamond) and all I did was buy a pair a Booster Straps World Cups and now I can fasten them in a get a lot of spring and pop out of the boot.

Overall, given I really like Dalbellos, and as long as you fit their fitting profile, they are wonderful boots! That being said, you cannot compromise on boots. Skis, bindings, skins you can...but not boots. I will certainly reiterate what others have said, the hunt for boots is a lengthy endeavor. Try boots on no more than 3 at time. Then come back a few days later if you feel they may work.

Nothing will spoil your fun faster when out touring than cramped, painful and damaged feet! Buy what fits you even if they are the most hideous things you have laid eyes on.

Hello. I am interested in buying the Dalbello Sherpa 5/5 AT boot. As fas as I know it is a rather medium last boot (100 mm). My Mondo size is 26,5. I measured my foot size and my foot width is 100-101 mm which is an average foot. As for my instep height I measured my instep while I had the foot on the brannock device, took a metric tape measure and placed one end on one corner of the heel cup, and pulled the tape over the instep to the opposite corner of the heelcup. The measurement was 26,5, the same as my foot lenght. Is this a mid instep? Does that mean that my foot is likely to fit into that type of boots?
