Binding Mount - CDA or Sandpoint

Guys -- what are the recommend shops for a few mounting jobs? I can do either CDA/Hayden or Sandpoint (skis are in Hayden, but my boots are up at Schweitzer. Oops)

Need to put a set of Guardians on one pair, and a set of STH12s on a pair of skis for my wife. Thanks!

Mike,
Good group in there… I deal with them all the time. Tell them you've had bad issues before with other shops!
Whatever you choose, be sure to ask any shop if they have the right jigs for the model binding you are using.

Nice thing about a slit board.. This isn't an issue!! Ha Hope you can make it to the Powderwhore movie on the 21st MikeT!!!

Ski Shack. Why not just get the tools and mount them yourself? I know where you can download templates to print. Piece of cake.

I thought about it, but it boils down to having time to do it. I used to do all my own mounts when I was racing, but I honestly don't mount enough pairs of skis these days to need to bother with buying a jig, tap, etc.

No jig required. You can print templates and mount away. Every man should have all the other stuff, drill, bits, caliper, tape, you know guy stuff. Mounting the wifes new sticks and my new Viciks this week. That's cool though. Go see Rhen at the Ski Shack.

Edited bc I sounded like a jerk...
I don't trust myself not to overly obsess that I am drilling less than perfect holes and that I don't have the templates perfectly aligned. For one or two pairs of skis per season, I'd rather outsource.

I mean, I have BS'd several mounts, making my own template from the actual binding or from old holes on a different pair of skis but I just feel like the $30 or so that it costs to have a shop do the mount is worth it to me if it's going to be on a pair of new skis that I am stoked about. If you trust yourself enough, that's awesome, until then I'll save the no jig mounts for my rock skis.

I wouldn't trust myself to keep the holes the right depth. Having worked in a shop, I know how easy it is to Ef up a set of bindings.
If you go to Ski Shack, be sure to tell Rhen or Matt you are a Panhandle Backcountry member!

I get it guys, to each his own right? Just throwing out a diff. option. I just know how easy it is for shop rats to jack up a mount, which is so stupid easy to do it really pisses me off that they can mess it up, even with a jig and all.

Yup, with a jig its really easy. I've probably done 20-30 pairs of skis with a jig, although it's been quite a few years. I also have messed up a mount (on my own skis) with a jig. I had a pair of Volkl G4s with a nick in the topsheet that looked EXACTLY like the little arrow for the midpoint, except it was an inch forward. So I stupidly centered the jig on the wrong spot, drilled, tapped, glued and mounted the bindings. Didn't notice until I put the skis together that one of the bindings was an inch forward of the other. Doh!

Mike T., Done the mistake option drilling into the metal and punched through, tape is not good enough as a depth gauge at times. So I understand the hesitation, and my Tele bindings are simple.

Wouldn't it be cool if we had a JigaRex for PBC members to use?? I'd throw $$ at it if people are interested....

I really want to get into doing my own mounts, but would like to do it with a jig rather than templates

That is why I always measure the center mark from tip and tail on each ski and make sure they are the same.
Measure thrice, drill once. I just enjoy working on my own gear, again, to each his own. Good luck with Ski Shack, good peeps!
Will have to get a beer together tomorrow night at the show!

I used to own a jig, went missing several years ago, moving will do that. The template really is stupid easy, and free. I like the JigaRex idea though.
