What: A ski experience unlike any other, Monumental follows the tracks of skiers in Yellowstone, Yosemite, Grand Teton, Glacier, and Olympic National Parks through the lens of KGB Productions, an award-winning production house based out of Jackson, Wyo. Telling the rich history of each of the five parks, the film features the voices of park rangers and locals who have dedicated their lives to preserving, promoting, and recreating in these pristine places. Meanwhile, as skiers travel farther and farther, looking for untracked powder and a refuge from crowds, a cast of skiers showcases what’s possible in our amazing national parks.

Also, John is a Spokane born and bred native, and he had to fight tooth and nail with REI corporate to get a Spokane show since they don't consider it a vibrant ski community. He said eff that and is out to prove 'em wrong.

Plus, when he was on tour the last week, Countless people—skids, old-timers, backcountry OG no-namers, bros, babes, moms, newbies—came up to me and said that they not only enjoyed it but that they appreciated it.
  • “It’s SO important to feature this history and for people to learn and know about this.”
  • “It should have been twice as long. I didn’t want it to end.”
  • “I never knew the history about Fred Brown in the Tetons or Ansel Adams in Yosemite.”
  • “I’m so excited for Powder to produce more films, cause we need stories in ski films. Everything else is pro this, bro that.”
With over 100-plus tickets sold, as of now, for Thursday night's Spokane premiere of Monumental: Skiing Our National Parks, here's a reminder to purchase a ticket, if you haven't already, and help spread the word.
John has been on the road the last week touring the film to sold-out shows, highlighted by last night's double-screening here in Jackson, Wy, which got pretty rowdy with a standing-room-only crowd in a 450-person theater. People are fired up on the film since it actually tells a real story, and an important one at that, that's not just skiing-related. So I think any and all of you will really enjoy since it's not your typical ski porn flick. Bring the kids and let's get the Fox packed and prove that Spokane is a skier's town! Schweitzer will be raffling off 4 lift tickets, we'll do a hardcover book giveaway, athletes will be signing posters, and we'll be selling Powder T-shirts and more.

Great film! I really do wish it would have been twice as long. Definitely motivates me to want to get out and ski some wild places!

Andy Mahre and Connery Lundin were there with John Stifter for a Q&A afterward which I thought was unique and should be done more.
