Another reason to ski in the backcountry

Sadly the old Riblet stuff is only as good as the parts they use to maintain the pivots. Amazingly well engineered stuff for the era, and will last several lifetimes, but you just can’t have a single safety in the form of a cotter pin.

Looks like they moved to a contemporary spring pin setup with a cotter redundancy on the safety pin itself. Not sure why they didn’t go with safety wire and treat it like a racing setup, but it is what it is.

Also, touring is better...

Make sure to have a few new cotter pins in your pocket when you're riding chair one. Rock-paper-scissors with your partner to decide who gets to climb up to put it in :0)
