There are couple AIARE Level 1 Courses being offered in our area this winter!

Selkirk Outdoor Leadership & Education (Sandpoint)
AIARE Level 1
  • Dates: January 18-20, 2014
  • Location: Schweitzer Mountain Resort, Sandpoint, Idaho
  • Ages: 16+
  • Cost: $250 – $325 (subsidized for participants 16 – 20yrs old)
  • Dates: January 25-27, 2014
  • Location: Schweitzer Mountain Resort, Sandpoint, Idaho
  • Ages: 16+

American Alpine Institute (Spokane)
AIARE Level 1
  • Dates: January 24-26, 2014
  • Location: Mt Spokane State Park, Spokane, Washington
  • Cost: $350

  • Thanks for posting Mike. I clicked up the SOLE site and found an Avalanche I course the end of January for 3 days at Sandpoint without the age restriction in the Jan 18 class, since I am slightly over 25yrs. Sent a message back on their website asking for more specific info on What, where, when and money as the website really didn't address these questions. When I get an answer I can post here if anyone shows interest.
To fellow PBC members and prospective members if you are interested in a Jan 26/27/28 Avalanche I course out of Sandpoint, post here and I will put the info in when I receive an answer.

At the film event, the staff at NIC stated they would be holding an Avalanche Level 1 course in January. I just looked and dates have yet to be posted. Not really much help, just know that there is a course that will be open to the public, coming for those who are in CDA.

Hey folks --

Just as a heads up both AIARE Level 1 courses being offered by SOLE in Sandpoint are actually "open-enrollment" which means ages 16+. No cap, as long as you can ski in Avy terrain. There was a typo on the site, so we apologize for any confusion there. Yes, we are hoping to enroll a teen/young adult Avy course as well, however, for this year we are looking towards an open-enrollment format until awareness and interest builds. I am listing full information here which reflects all the pertinent information (see below), including course times. I have also including our upcoming Level 2. Anyone interested in Aval I course Jan 18-20, thought I might attend but could use a share in cost for place to stay in sandpoint etc., I live inm St Maries and just too far to drive for 3 consecutive days.
