BC 101: https://www.spokanemountaineers.org/s/backcountry-skiing-101
  • This is a two part Backcountry Skiing 101 Seminar
    • Classroom Session February 28th
    • Snow Day March 5th:
  • Transitioning from good ole fashion ‘lift-riding’ to sidecountry or backcountry travel is becoming easier and easier, but are you ready to take the plunge? Backcountry 101 is geared toward those who just are starting on their journey from lift access to the backcountry, or those who have some experience and want to check their proficiency.
  • The goals of the class are to answer ‘101’ level questions and to begin or continue the conversation of safe and fun winter travel. This includes sections on gear, terrain choices, efficient movement, picking partners, and human factors.
  • Register and sign-up on the Spokane Mountaineers website.

Do you guys ever do any group tours?
Hey! The club has been quiet with the whole covid thing and all that the last few years but we are working our way back this year. I've been helping trying to get the club ski events going and we have some group tours on the calendar but totally have capacity for more!

Right now there's a new years party at the training grounds on sunday, a wallowas trip (currently on a waitlist for group lodging), and a couple volcanos on the schedule. In the past some bigger trips were more common and we will be in full form again soon! More trips are expected to pop up this year for semilocal type objectives and just stuff like uphill laps at mt spokane. A cool thing is anyone can post an event on the site - If you have ideas or want support for more trips the club has the infrastructure to help make it happen and get the word out!
